harvard graduate school of design
i am currently pursuing a master in design studies at the harvard graduate school of design, where my research examines how design can help analyze, represent, and intervene in conflict-affected urban environments.
my work focuses on the paso del norte region — ciudad juárez and el paso — a territory often described through the paradox of extreme safety and extreme violence. rather than treating violence only as an event, my research investigates how it shapes everyday spatial practices: movement, gathering, visibility, and the conditions under which public life becomes possible.
through mapping, archival work, and participatory installations, i explore how design can make systemic violence legible while also creating spaces for collective memory, care, and repair. i am particularly interested in participatory, anticipatory, and restorative design approaches that reveal latent publics and support forms of civic life that persist despite conditions of fear or fragmentation.
ultimately, my goal is to develop design methodologies and spatial strategies that help communities confront structural violence while opening new possibilities for shared urban futures.
